Responsibilities
Lead the technical design, implementation, and lifecycle management of shared, multi-tenant platform services like PostgreSQL, streaming systems, and key-value stores on Kubernetes.
Define high availability, disaster recovery, failover, and multi-region architectures with strict durability and recovery time targets.
Develop Kubernetes-native automation, custom controllers, operators, and self-service APIs to orchestrate zero-touch provisioning, scaling, and fleet upgrades.
Partner with principal engineers and product teams to establish consumption contracts, tenancy boundaries, isolation standards, and service-level objectives.
Drive reliability engineering practices by conducting failure-mode analysis, game days, and post-incident reviews for stateful systems.
Mentor mid-level and junior engineers through regular design reviews, code pairing, and technical guidance on distributed systems.
Contribute directly to production code in Go, writing robust systems-level tooling and infrastructure automation.
Qualifications
Must be a US Citizen, naturalized citizen, or Permanent Resident (Green Card holder) capable of passing US Federal Personnel Authorization Screening Standards (USFedPASS).
Extensive software engineering background, requiring at least 12 years of experience with a Bachelor's degree, 8 years with a Master's degree, or 5 years with a PhD in Computer Science or a related field.
Demonstrated track record of operating distributed systems and deploying stateful workloads on Kubernetes at enterprise scale.
Proven experience architecting and operating at least one multi-tenant data infrastructure service such as PostgreSQL, Kafka, RabbitMQ, or Redis.
Solid software development skills in Go or another systems language with a commitment to developing primarily in Go.
Hands-on expertise with core hyperscaler infrastructure across AWS, Azure, or GCP, including compute, networking, storage, and IAM primitives.
Experience developing, extending, or maintaining custom Kubernetes operators for stateful databases or messaging tiers.
Deep domain knowledge of PostgreSQL internals, Kafka partition management, or Redis cluster configurations.
Familiarity with container networking interfaces, service meshes, zero-downtime fleet migration strategies, and Crossplane or Terraform automation.
Work Environment
Flexible hybrid arrangement requiring 2 days per week on-site in a designated office such as Kirkland, WA, Santa Clara, CA, or San Diego, CA.

Standard full-time schedule of approximately 40 hours per week with participation in distributed system operational reviews.
