As the Senior Manager for Federal Affairs, you will serve as a key advocate for the architectural profession, representing interests before Congress and the Executive Branch. Reporting to the Senior Director, you will manage federal lobbying efforts, research legislative impacts, and help shape the organization's policy priorities regarding the built environment, sustainability, and equity.
Responsibilities
- Lead federal lobbying and outreach efforts to Members of Congress and Executive Branch officials.
- Manage the Government Advocacy Committee to ensure policy positions align with member needs.
- Coordinate the annual Hill Day and other advocacy events to facilitate direct member engagement with policymakers.
- Draft proposed legislation, regulatory comments, and formal policy statements for the organization.
- Oversee the ArchiPAC political giving strategy and ensure compliance with federal ethics and campaign laws.
- Brief leadership on legislative developments and provide content for federal policy digital resources.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to integrate federal priorities into broader organizational communication strategies.
Qualifications
- You must hold a Bachelor's degree in political science or a related field.
- You need at least 5 years of professional experience in federal relations or legislative affairs.
- You must demonstrate a deep understanding of the federal legislative and regulatory processes.
- You have proven experience in public speaking and communicating complex ideas to diverse groups.
- You possess strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and internet-based research methods.
- You have a track record of managing federal lobbying teams and advancing policy proposals.
Nice to have
- A Juris Doctor (J.D.) or Master's degree in a relevant field is highly preferred.
- Previous experience serving as federal legislative staff or as an executive branch political appointee is a plus.
- Expertise in policy portfolios such as tax, housing, climate resiliency, or federal procurement is beneficial.
- Multilingual communication skills are an asset for engaging with a global community.
Work environment
- This is a hybrid position based in the Washington, D.C. metro area.
- You will be required to periodically work on-site at the headquarters in Washington, D.C.
- The role involves approximately 10 percent travel for conferences and events.
