In this role, you will lead outreach efforts for Westmoreland County, acting as a vital link between the library system and the local community. You will be responsible for bringing library services directly to people at various mobile sites such as schools, assisted living facilities, and community centers, ensuring that resources are accessible beyond the physical library branches. Your work will involve not only delivering materials but also providing research instruction and readers' advisory services to a diverse demographic ranging from children to seniors.
Responsibilities
- Deliver library materials and services to mobile sites including childcare centers and neighborhoods.
- Provide research instruction and readers' advisory services to adults, teens, and children.
- Plan and execute educational classes and events at various community locations.
- Lead outreach initiatives to connect community members with services outside of traditional branch walls.
- Adapt and evolve outreach methods to meet the changing needs of a diverse service area.
- Maintain regular communication with site coordinators to schedule and facilitate library visits.
- Operate library vehicles or transport materials safely to various community outreach points.
Qualifications
- Two to five years of experience in library services, education, or community outreach.
- Strong proficiency in research instruction and providing readers' advisory across different age groups.
- Demonstrated ability to lead community engagement efforts and manage off-site events.
- Capability to work a flexible part-time schedule including specific evening and weekend shifts.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with diverse community populations and partner organizations.
Nice to have
- Prior experience working with seniors in assisted living or children in childcare settings.
- Advanced knowledge of educational programming and curriculum development for public libraries.
- Proven track record of evolving service models to increase community accessibility.
Work environment
- The position is based at the Newton Branch in Hague, Virginia, but requires frequent travel to community sites.
- This is a part-time role requiring 20.92 hours per week with a consistent daily schedule.
- You will work on-site and in the field, including one night per week and one Saturday per month.
- The role involves a high degree of public interaction and community engagement across Westmoreland County.
