DV Shelter Program Assistant (Part-Time, Fri/Sat)

Overview

In this part-time role, you will provide critical overnight support to survivors of domestic violence within an emergency shelter and through a 24/7 hotline. Working Friday and Saturday nights, you will serve as a first point of contact for individuals in crisis, offering trauma-informed advocacy, safety planning, and immediate emotional support while ensuring the shelter remains a safe and secure environment for residents.

Responsibilities

• Manage the 24/7 domestic violence hotline by providing crisis intervention, risk assessments, and resource referrals in a professional manner.
• Facilitate shelter orientations and intakes for new residents, ensuring all client data is accurately entered into the management database within 24 hours.
• Provide direct advocacy services including safety planning, crisis counseling, and transportation for program participants.
• Coordinate case management appointments and support services between residents and specialized shelter advocates.
• Maintain the health and safety of the facility through daily walk-throughs and compliance checks according to agency standards.
• Conduct routine inventory of food and basic need supplies and assist in the distribution of donations to residents.
• Co-facilitate weekly house meetings and support groups focused on empowerment and the dynamics of domestic violence.

Qualifications

• You must have a High School diploma or GED and at least one year of experience in crisis support, residential services, or emergency response.
• You must demonstrate the ability to safely de-escalate conflicts and crises using a trauma-informed approach.
• You are required to pass a Level Two background screening through the Florida Care Provider Clearinghouse.
• You must maintain a valid driver's license and have reliable transportation to travel between various facility locations.
• You must be available to work the Friday and Saturday overnight shift from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
• You must be able to complete the mandatory agency CORE competency training within your first 90 days of employment.

Nice to have

• Bilingual language skills are highly preferred to better serve a diverse population of survivors.
• Prior experience working with at-risk or culturally specific populations in a social service setting is an advantage.
• Familiarity with Florida domestic violence statutes and victim compensation programs will help you excel in this role.

Work environment

• You will work on-site at a 24-hour emergency shelter located in the Martin County or Indian River County area.
• The environment is fast-paced and can be high-stimulation with potential exposure to secondary trauma.
• You will be part of a collaborative team that participates in regular case staffing and supervision meetings.
• The role requires flexibility to support the emergency disaster team during national disasters or weather emergencies.
