In this role, you will join the team at HomeState's El Segundo location, supporting both front-of-house service and back-of-house kitchen operations. Whether you are guiding guests through the menu, operating kitchen stations, or preparing signature Tex-Mex dishes, you will focus on providing warm hospitality, maintaining pristine safety and sanitation standards, and collaborating with your team to ensure smooth daily operations.
Responsibilities
- Welcome guests warmly, assist with order taking, navigate menu options and allergy inquiries, and fulfill various front-of-house service roles including expoing, running, and bussing.
- Prepare, cook, and assemble food items according to established recipes, portion sizes, and build standards across prep, line, grill, and tortilla stations.
- Operate and monitor kitchen display systems (KDS), ovens, fryers, and other standard restaurant equipment while completing routine line checks.
- Ensure strict food safety and temperature control by practicing proper labeling, rotation methods such as FIFO, and tasting procedures.
- Maintain high sanitation standards by thoroughly cleaning, sweeping, mopping, and sanitizing workstations, kitchen equipment, dining areas, and restrooms.
- Receive, inspect, and properly store incoming deliveries to maintain food quality and temperature compliance.
- Communicate effectively with teammates and leadership to troubleshoot shift issues, report safety or equipment concerns, and support onboarding and training.
Qualifications
- You must have the availability to work a minimum of five days per week, including shifts during mornings, evenings, and weekends.
- You must possess the physical stamina to remain on your feet for six or more hours per shift and lift, push, pull, or carry items weighing up to 40 pounds.
- You must have strong communication skills and spatial awareness to safely navigate busy kitchen and dining areas while handling food and equipment.
- You must demonstrate the ability to follow strict food handling, cleanliness, and sanitation guidelines.
- You must be eligible to work in the United States and pass E-Verify verification.
Nice to have
- You ideally have 1 to 2 years of prior experience working in guest-facing restaurant roles or food preparation environments.
- You have a strong passion for Tex-Mex cuisine, hospitality, and fast-paced team collaboration.
- You possess familiarity with operating Kitchen Display Systems (KDS) and standard commercial kitchen equipment.
Work environment
- This is a fully on-site position located at the HomeState restaurant in El Segundo, California.
- You will work in an active, fast-paced restaurant environment with potential exposure to fluctuating temperatures, including patio dining areas and hot cooking lines.
- The work schedule requires a minimum of five working days per week, with occasional sixth-day shifts or extended hours as business needs dictate.
- You will collaborate closely with a diverse team of front-of-house and back-of-house service professionals.
