DV Shelter Program Assistant (Part-Time, Fri/Sat)

Overview

In this part-time role, you will provide direct support, advocacy, and crisis intervention to domestic violence survivors through a 24/7 hotline and within an emergency shelter. Operating under an empowerment-based, trauma-informed model, you will assist residents with daily living needs, coordinate intakes, facilitate safety planning, and help connect individuals and families to vital community resources.

Responsibilities

• Answer 24/7 domestic violence hotline calls, conducting risk assessments, crisis intervention, safety planning, and resource referrals in a calm and professional manner.
• Conduct resident orientations, complete comprehensive intakes within 24 hours of arrival, and accurately log all client information into the management database.
• Deliver supportive services to shelter residents, including emotional support, transportation coordination, and access to basic need supplies.
• Inform survivors of their legal rights, the Address Confidentiality Program, and crime victim compensation resources offered through the Office of the Attorney General.
• Co-facilitate weekly house meetings and support groups covering power dynamics, personal safety, and survivor well-being.
• Assist with daily shelter operations, including conducting health and safety walkthroughs, organizing donations, and managing food and supply inventories.
• Collaborate with domestic violence case managers, shelter advocates, and child advocates to align care plans and support services.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• At least one year of experience in direct crisis support, residential facilities, customer service, emergency response, or managing sensitive confidential data.
• Demonstrated ability to de-escalate crisis situations using trauma-informed approaches.
• Valid driver's license with reliable transportation to travel between emergency shelters and outreach locations.
• Ability to successfully pass a Florida Level 2 background screening.

Nice to have

• Bilingual language proficiency in English and Spanish or Haitian Creole.
• Prior experience delivering advocacy or support services to at-risk or culturally specific populations.
• Familiarity with Florida Domestic Violence Statutes, Injunctions for Protection, victim compensation programs, and the VINE network.

Work environment

• On-site overnight schedule covering Friday and Saturday nights from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM, totaling 16 to 20 hours per week.
• Fast-paced, active 24-hour emergency shelter setting located on the Treasure Coast of Florida, with physical tasks including lifting up to 25 pounds.
• Collaborative and trauma-informed team environment requiring high emotional resilience and awareness of secondary trauma.
• Initial mandatory onboarding training completed on-site during standard weekday business hours (Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM).
