Responsibilities
Prepare a variety of specialty beverages and food items accurately according to established recipes and product specification sheets.
Operate point-of-sale registers efficiently while providing friendly and attentive customer service.
Maintain high standards of café cleanliness, hygiene, and sanitation through scheduled daily and weekly maintenance routines.
Unpack, stock, and rotate inventory following First In, First Out (FIFO) guidelines to maintain product freshness.
Implement visual merchandising standards across the bakery display cases, retail counters, and floor fixtures.
Promote limited-time offerings and café promotions while assisting customers with menu recommendations.
Collaborate with café colleagues and provide operational support to the broader bookstore floor when needed.
Qualifications
Ability to perform continuous physical activity, including prolonged standing, walking, repetitive bending, and lifting.
Comfort and proficiency with point-of-sale systems, computers, and store technology.
Demonstrated commitment to reliable attendance, punctuality, and flexible scheduling across mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on delivering cheerful, professional customer service.
Willingness to learn and strictly adhere to food safety, hygiene, sanitation, and loss prevention procedures.
Prior experience working as a barista or in a fast-paced food service and retail environment.
Familiarity with café inventory management and merchandising practices.
Experience with de-escalation techniques and active customer problem resolution.
Work Environment
Fully on-site work environment at the bookstore café located in Manhattan Beach, California.
Part-time schedule requiring availability across early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and most holidays.
Active and dynamic retail setting involving collaborative teamwork and frequent customer interaction.
Occasional opportunities to support other nearby store locations within the regional cluster as needed.
