Overview
In this role, you will lead the human resources department for a mission-driven organization supporting youth development across multiple counties. You will serve as the primary HR leader, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and partnering with site managers to maintain an engaged workforce of approximately 110 to 130 seasonal and full-time employees. Your work will directly impact the organization's ability to provide safe, educational environments for thousands of children in the Central Coast region. You will be responsible for the full employee lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding to compliance and benefits administration. Your focus will be on strengthening organizational culture and ensuring all operations align with California employment laws. This position offers a unique opportunity to build scalable HR systems and coach leaders across 14 different club locations to foster a collaborative and inclusive workplace.
Responsibilities
- Manage daily human resources operations across 14 club locations and two regional counties.
- Partner with leadership and supervisors to provide guidance on employee relations, coaching, and conflict resolution.
- Lead full-cycle recruitment and onboarding initiatives to attract and retain exceptional staff.
- Administer the organization's HRIS to maintain data integrity, track ACA compliance, and optimize system reporting.
- Ensure total compliance with California employment laws, wage and hour regulations, and organizational policies.
- Coordinate payroll readiness by verifying timekeeping records and benefit deductions prior to processing.
- Oversee benefits administration, including medical programs, retirement plans, and workers' compensation claims.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- At least five years of progressively responsible human resources management experience.
- In-depth knowledge of California employment laws and HR best practices.
- Proven experience managing HRIS platforms and leveraging data to improve operational efficiency.
- Strong background in employee relations, recruitment, and benefits administration.
- Ability to travel locally between various club sites within the service area.
Nice to have
- Professional certification such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR.
- Previous experience supporting human resources in a nonprofit or multi-site organization.
- Background in payroll administration and timekeeping system management.
Work environment
- Based primarily in Paso Robles, California, with required local travel to various club sites.
