The daily work involves the physical operation of rotary or cable tool drilling rigs and the handling of heavy drilling components such as casings and bits. Assistants spend their time managing mud pumps, monitoring borehole progress, and collecting soil and rock samples to assess aquifer depth and quality. The rhythm is dictated by the geology of the site, requiring constant mechanical adjustments and troubleshooting to overcome subsurface obstructions or equipment failures.

Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment and support vehicles to transport drilling rigs to various work sites.
- Connect power cables and hoses to ensure the continuous operation of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Mix drilling fluids and manage circulation systems to stabilize boreholes and remove geological cuttings.
- Install steel or plastic well casings and screens to secure the structural integrity of the well.
