SMB Acquisitions Operator (Search Fund)
Identifies, acquires, and manages a small business to drive modernization and organic growth.
Overview
The day-to-day reality of this career transitions from intensive deal sourcing to hands-on general management. During the search phase, the work involves cold outreach to business owners, financial modeling, and rigorous due diligence to identify stable companies with high growth potential. Once a deal closes, the operator moves into the target company to oversee all functions, including sales, finance, and human resources, often in a traditional industry setting.
Success in this role requires a blend of financial literacy and interpersonal emotional intelligence to lead existing staff through a transition of ownership. The rhythm shift is significant, moving from the high-pressure environment of deal-making to the persistent, incremental work of improving operational efficiencies and modernizing legacy systems. Individuals who thrive in this career tend to possess high autonomy, resilience, and the ability to make executive decisions with incomplete information.
