Rural IoT Consultant
Specialist providing remote monitoring and automated infrastructure solutions for rural and agricultural land management.
Overview
This career involves the technical orchestration of LoRaWAN, satellite, and mesh networking technologies to solve connectivity challenges in isolated locations. The daily reality consists of a mix of field-based site surveys and remote network configuration, often requiring the adaptation of standard hardware to survive harsh environmental conditions. The consultant must analyze topographical data to determine optimal signal placement while troubleshooting interference issues that arise in natural landscapes.
The rhythm of the work fluctuates between the physical installation of equipment and the analytical task of setting up data dashboards for clients. Success in this field requires a technical aptitude for both physical hardware and software integration, alongside a practical understanding of rural infrastructure needs. Those who thrive in this role often enjoy problem-solving in the outdoors and have a high degree of self-reliance when managing complex deployments in the field.
Responsibilities
- Conduct geographic site surveys to determine the best placement for network gateways and sensors.
- Design custom low-power networking architectures using LoRaWAN or similar long-range protocols.
- Install and calibrate sensors for monitoring soil moisture, tank levels, and gate security.
- Configure cloud-based dashboards to provide real-time alerts and data visualization for clients.
