Responsibilities
- Operate automated or semi-automated lifting mechanisms to empty containers into collection vehicles.
- Inspect waste loads to identify and reject prohibited hazardous materials or non-recyclable contaminants.
- Navigate heavy-duty trucks through narrow residential streets and busy commercial corridors according to a set schedule.
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure mechanical safety and compliance.
- Communicate with dispatchers and supervisors regarding route delays, equipment malfunctions, or blocked access points.
- Maintain accurate logs of collection weights, fuel consumption, and hours of service.
- Guide colleagues through safe backing maneuvers and heavy machinery operation in tight spaces.
Qualifications
- Possession of a valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for heavy vehicle operation.
- Demonstrated ability to lift heavy objects and perform repetitive physical labor for extended periods.
- Successful completion of a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination and drug screening.
- Clean driving record with no major infractions or safety violations over a multi-year period.
- Basic proficiency in reading route maps and utilizing digital navigation or dispatch software.

- Experience operating specialized equipment such as front-load, rear-load, or side-load waste trucks.
- Knowledge of local municipal codes and environmental regulations regarding waste disposal and recycling.
