Medical Science Liaison (Ophthalmology)

Overview

Responsibilities

• Identify and maintain professional relationships with leading ophthalmologists and clinical researchers.
• Present complex clinical data and therapeutic updates to healthcare professionals and institutional formulary committees.
• Provide scientific support for internal stakeholders including marketing, sales, and clinical development teams.
• Respond to unsolicited requests for information regarding off-label uses of ophthalmic products.
• Gather and report field insights regarding competitive intelligence and unmet medical needs in eye care.
• Assist in the identification of potential sites for clinical trials and support investigator-sponsored studies.
• Represent the organization at major scientific conferences and therapeutic symposia.

Qualifications

• An advanced terminal degree such as a PharmD, PhD, or MD is mandatory for this role.
• Extensive knowledge of ocular anatomy, physiology, and ophthalmic pharmacology is required.
• Demonstrated experience in clinical research methodology and the interpretation of statistical data is essential.
• Current knowledge of regional regulatory and compliance guidelines for medical affairs is necessary.
• Strong public speaking and scientific presentation skills are required for engaging with medical experts.

Nice to have

• Previous experience specifically within the ophthalmology therapeutic area is highly preferred.
• A published record of scientific research or clinical trials in peer-reviewed journals is advantageous.
• Existing relationships with regional or national Key Opinion Leaders in the vision science community are beneficial.

• The role typically requires significant travel, often exceeding fifty percent of the work week.
• Professionals work remotely for administrative tasks while spending the remainder of their time in clinics or hospitals.
