Overview

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive energy audits using diagnostic equipment like thermal imaging and blower door testers.
• Analyze utility bills and historical energy consumption patterns to establish a baseline for residential efficiency.
• Inspect insulation levels and air sealing within attics, basements, and crawlspaces to identify thermal bridges.
• Evaluate the efficiency and safety of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems during on-site visits.
• Generate detailed technical reports outlining prioritized recommendations for energy-saving retrofits and upgrades.
• Calculate potential energy savings and financial return on investment for proposed weatherization projects.
• Advise property owners on available government rebates, tax credits, and utility incentive programs.

Qualifications

• BPI Building Analyst or RESNET HERS Rater certification is typically required for professional practice.
• A minimum of three years of experience in building science, construction management, or HVAC systems.
• Proficiency in energy modeling software such as REM/Rate or Ekotrope to simulate building performance.
• Valid driver license and the ability to transport specialized diagnostic equipment to various job sites.
• Strong technical writing skills for the production of formal energy assessment reports.
• Knowledge of local and national building codes related to residential energy efficiency.

• A Bachelor degree in environmental science, mechanical engineering, or architectural technology.
• Additional certifications in lead-safe work practices or asbestos awareness.
