- Coordinate specimen loans to external researchers and institutions while ensuring proper packing and climate-controlled transport.
- Oversee the maintenance of laboratory facilities and specialized equipment used for specimen preparation and analysis.
- Develop and implement long-term conservation strategies to prevent the degradation of reactive or fragile minerals and fossils.
- Supervise junior curatorial staff, student interns, and volunteers in daily processing and documentation activities.
Qualifications
- A Master’s degree in Geology, Paleontology, Museum Studies, or a closely related geoscientific field is essential.
- Extensive experience in the identification and classification of geological materials including rocks, minerals, and fossils.
- Proficiency in using specialized museum collection management software and relational databases.
- Demonstrated knowledge of legal and ethical frameworks regarding the collection and movement of natural history specimens.
- Proven ability to manage physical logistics and specialized storage requirements for diverse geological media.
