Director of Strategic Finance (Hospitality Group)
Oversees financial planning, capital allocation, and strategic growth initiatives for multi-unit hospitality organizations.
Overview
This career involves a rigorous blend of financial engineering and operational analysis tailored to the low-margin, high-volume nature of the hospitality sector. Daily activity centers on synthesizing disparate data points from point-of-sale systems, labor management tools, and supply chain invoices into cohesive strategic forecasts. The rhythm of the work follows both the monthly financial close and the multi-year cycle of property development and market expansion.
Professionals in this field solve complex problems related to site selection, menu engineering profitability, and capital expenditure prioritization. Success requires the ability to translate technical financial metrics into actionable insights for non-financial stakeholders, such as executive chefs and regional operations managers. The role thrives on the tension between maintaining lean operational costs and investing in the guest experience to drive long-term brand equity.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain complex financial models to forecast long-term revenue and cash flow for the entire hospitality portfolio.
- Lead the annual budgeting process and quarterly re-forecasting across various brands and individual operating units.
- Conduct rigorous due diligence and financial feasibility studies for new site acquisitions or brand concept launches.
- Analyze labor costs and prime cost margins to identify specific opportunities for operational efficiency at the unit level.
- Prepare comprehensive board decks and financial reporting packages for executive leadership and external investors.
- Manage the capital allocation process to ensure high returns on investments for renovations and technological upgrades.
- Monitor industry trends and competitor benchmarks to inform pricing strategies and market positioning.

- Minimum of seven to ten years of experience in corporate finance, investment banking, or hospitality management.
- Advanced proficiency in financial modeling and data visualization tools.
- Demonstrated experience managing multi-unit P&L statements within the hospitality or retail sectors.
- Deep understanding of GAAP accounting principles and their application to restaurant or hotel operations.
Nice to have
- Master of Business Administration or Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
- Previous experience in private equity or high-growth startup environments.
- Expertise in SQL or advanced data analytics software for processing large transactional datasets.
Work environment
- Corporate office setting with occasional travel to individual hospitality sites for operational reviews.
- Collaborative culture involving frequent interaction with executive leadership and department heads.
- Standard business hours with increased intensity during budget cycles and quarterly reporting periods.
- Utilization of enterprise resource planning software and integrated point-of-sale reporting tools.
Benefits & growth
- Compensation typically includes a significant performance-based annual bonus tied to EBITDA targets.
- Career progression often leads to Vice President of Finance or Chief Financial Officer roles.
- Participation in equity incentive plans or long-term incentive programs is common in private equity-backed groups.
- Professional development opportunities include industry conferences and specialized executive leadership training.
