Overview

Responsibilities

• Design and implement comprehensive self-management training programs for patients with Type 1, Type 2, and gestational diabetes.
• Train patients and families on the administration of injectable medications and the operation of advanced glucose monitoring technologies.
• Review clinical data and laboratory results to provide recommendations for medication adjustments to prescribing physicians.
• Conduct risk assessments to identify potential complications such as neuropathy, retinopathy, or cardiovascular disease.
• Facilitate support groups and community outreach initiatives to improve public awareness of metabolic health.
• Maintain detailed electronic health records to track patient progress and satisfy regulatory compliance standards.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from an accredited institution is standard for entry into the field.
• Current and valid Registered Nurse licensure in the relevant jurisdiction of practice is mandatory.

• Certification as a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist must be obtained through the CBDCE.
