Custom Eurorack Synth Module Designer
Specialist designer creating bespoke electronic musical instruments and hardware components for the Eurorack ecosystem.
Overview
The daily reality of this career involves a rhythmic shift between digital precision and physical craftsmanship. Designers spend significant time in CAD software and PCB layout tools, obsessing over signal paths, power consumption, and the ergonomics of a faceplate. The work demands a high degree of problem-solving to fit complex synthesis architectures into the narrow constraints of the Eurorack format while maintaining audio fidelity and electrical stability.
The profession attracts individuals who balance artistic vision with technical rigor, as the final product is both a tool for creative expression and a precision instrument. Success in the field requires an intimate understanding of voltage-controlled systems and the ability to iterate through multiple hardware prototypes. Thriving designers are those who enjoy the tactile nature of soldering and assembly alongside the intellectual challenge of circuit design and firmware development.
Responsibilities
- Design complex analog and digital circuits for sound generation, modulation, and utility functions.
- Develop printed circuit board layouts optimized for low noise and compact physical dimensions.
- Create three-dimensional models for custom enclosures and front panels using CAD software.
- Write and debug firmware in C++ or Assembly for microcontroller-based modules.
