Overview

Responsibilities

• Manage affirmative litigation to challenge practices that violate existing animal protection statutes.
• Draft and review legislative proposals at the local, state, and federal levels to strengthen animal welfare laws.
• Provide legal advice to organizational leadership regarding regulatory compliance and risk management.
• Author amicus briefs for high-level court cases involving animal standing or constitutional rights.
• Represent the organization in public hearings, legislative committees, and negotiations with government agencies.
• Collaborate with law enforcement and investigators to provide legal support for cruelty interventions.
• Publish scholarly articles or white papers on emerging legal theories in animal law.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Active membership in a state bar association and the ability to practice law in that jurisdiction.
• Extensive knowledge of administrative law, environmental law, or constitutional law.
• Minimum of five years of experience in litigation or legislative policy drafting.
• Proven ability to conduct exhaustive legal research using tools like Westlaw or LexisNexis.
• Exceptional written and oral advocacy skills tailored for judicial and legislative audiences.

• Specialized certification or concentration in Animal Law or Environmental Law.
• Prior experience working within a government regulatory body or an international non-governmental organization.
